EIDA shows results for 2011

Yesterday Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) published a report on progress of Emirates national ID card program progress. 178 pages document shows that 2.77 million cards were issued in 2011, over 100% more than a year before when 1.26 million national id cards were printed. With 5.28 million people registered EIDA was able to cover almost 63% of 8.2 million Emirates population. Despite the initial mistakes and delays the agency was able to put the program in full swing. In 2012 EIDA is expected to focus on integration of the national id card with outside the ministry systems. UAE national ID card integrated with many systems such as immigration, health care, public transportation and banking makes the country a leader in modern identification not only among Arab countries but all over the world.
In fact Abu Dhabi will be hosting the 5th ID World Annual EMEA Summit which starts on March 18th. 2 day conference will cover current and future issues of identification, border control, asset tracking, advances in citizen id schemes and transport security. The event has been endorsed by the European Commision and held under the patronage of Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority.
