UK national ID card database to be deleted this week

Almost 5 years after its launch United Kingdom national id card program database will be deleted this week. Program was launched as a part of global war on terror on the wave of after 9/11 legislative. High cost and heavy criticism, especially from Conservative party caused the program to stall and eventually to be shut down. The cost of deleting ID card database itself is estimated at 400k £.  Country ID card program fate was sealed upon election win for Conservative Party in May 2010. Ending of the program was one of high points of new prime minister David Cameron who took the office on May 11 2010.
