Yesterday Rhode Island Senate voted 27:6 passing voter ID bill. If this becomes the law state ID card, driver’s license, military ID card, US Passport or voter ID card will be required to cast a ballot effective 2012 elections. Until 2014 some other forms of identification will be temporary accepted, these include birth certificate, Social Security card or Medicare card. The new bill divided Democrats in RI, some support saying along with Republicans the law would prevent fraud while other warn that elderly and poor might be excluded from the voting process. Bill now moves to the House floor.
